What if you could step into your future for just one day?
Not to rush ahead or skip the now—but to imagine what your life could look like if everything soft and good found its way to you. This week’s future self writing prompt concerns dreaming, visualizing, and getting curious about the person you’re becoming. By stepping into the shoes of your future self, you can gain a clearer understanding of your aspirations and the path you want to take in life.
🌿 Future Self Writing Prompt:
Write about a full day in the life of your future self.
Pick an age—16? 21? 30? Older?—and let yourself live in it. Describe the little details:
Where do you wake up?
What do you eat for breakfast?
What kind of work or creativity fills your time?
Who texts you to say hi?
How do you feel in your body, your space, your relationships?
What brings you joy?
Let it be dreamy or realistic. Soft or ambitious. There are no wrong answers here. This is a judgment-free zone.
🧠 Why This Prompt Matters
This isn’t just about future goals—it’s about practicing hope.
Writing about your future self helps you:
Imagine your life with more possibility
Explore what matters most to you
Reconnect with hope during stressful times
Ground yourself in who you are becoming—not just who you’ve been
📝 Try It Like This:
Write it as a journal entry from Future You.
“Today, I woke up in a tiny apartment filled with light. I made matcha and put on music while I…”
Or try it as a story in the third person.
“She wakes slowly, the cat curled up by her feet, the window cracked open…”
Or sketch it out visually as a collage or mood board (hello, Canva!)
💬 Reflect:
When you’re done writing, ask yourself:
What surprised me about this version of me?
What parts feel possible even now?
What’s one thing I can start doing to support this future self?
🌼 Final Thought
Your future self is not a stranger. They’re you—with more practice, time, and space to grow. Writing about them might also help you be a little kinder to your present self, and that's a beautiful thing.
